Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day! The majority of us didn't begin the day till almost noon, since we hadn't gone to bed till daylight the night before. Mitch woke up early in the morning and got sick..great way to start the day. Little did he know, he was starting a trend, unfortunately I also spent my day in the same state. No pity for me though, mine was self-induced. So with only a few measly hours of sleep, we had to get outside and clean up the HUGE amount of bottles in the backyard, plus cups, garbage, what a mess! For some reason Brian and I got stuck with the job, Darcy helped out near the end. Then, it was off to Mickey D's for breakfast, which turned out to be lunch since it was way too late for McMuffins. That didn't sit so great, so we spent the rest of the day lazing around, trying to nap, and eating gravol..fun fun! Matt and Karine layed downstairs watching the soccer game, Darcy was up and down like a yo-yo, and Mitch, Brian and I sat upstairs listening to the "Footloose" soundtrack...great times! It was actually quite funny...lots of laughs.

Because of the state we were all in, and the impending rain, we decided not to head downtown early for the Canada Day Events. We figured we'd wait till later, and drive down rather than take a bus, then just go to the fireworks. We never left the house till 8:30pm, with the fireworks starting at 10:00. We somehow managed to find a parking spot downtown, totally flukey, and then walked to the hotel where Brent and Brian live. We went up to see their place, get a drink of water, and get ready to head out for the show. They only live about a 10 minute walk from parliament, which was a bonus. We also got to meet Aggie (not sure if I'm spelling this right or not..forgive me)...this is a picture of him sitting on Mitchell's lap...He's a ventriloquist puppet that Brent and Brian bought on ebay..too funny! We'd heard a few great stories about him, so we were really glad to get the chance to meet him..heh heh!

So, we headed on our walk to parliament, and the downtown was CRAZY! Lots of happy drunk people, high-fiving, yelling "Happy Canada Day", waving flags, all that jazz. It was really cool! I held Mitch's hand pretty much the whole time, I was so scared of losing him in the crowd. The fireworks were amazing, extremely cool..here's some pics..

We also have lots of videos, here are a couple of cool ones. Check them out here and here... After the fireworks, we headed back to the hotel, we all needed a bathroom break and a drink of water before heading back to Kanata. Luckily, Brent was there, he had just got home from work. It was good that we had a chance to say goodbye to both of the Dickson boys before we left. So, with goodbyes said, we headed back to Matt and Karine's where we watched our firework videos, and then hit the hay at 12:00pm. We had a severe thunder and lightening storm, so we never got to sleep until 1:00am, then the dreadful alarm went off at 3:00am..time to get up and head for Miramichi! UGH!

It rained the whole trip home, right through all 3 provinces, what's the chances of that? The traffic was great, since we picked such a wierd driving time, so that was a good thing. Mitch got sick in the car just outside of Montreal, sorry Nick! Heh heh, we cleaned it up and gave him a gravol, then he slept right till he got home. The drive overall wasn't that bad, just really tiring! Plus, I was sad that our vacation was over, I'm really going to miss Ottawa! It is always so nice to come home though, like they say, there's no place like home! Thank you Matt and Karine for putting up with us for a whole week, and for being such wonderful hosts! It was the funnest vacation I've ever had, never a dull moment! Best of all we so many great memories of each and every day we were there..times we'll never forget! We can never thank you enough for your hospitality..hopefully we can return the favor someday! So, that's all folks! Till next time, Lissy
